Beshtaugorskoe field

The Beshtaugorskoe field was discovered in 1956 when Koltsovskaya expedition was drilling a 998 m deep test borehole “2-Beshtaugorskaya” (2-B) at a foot of Beshtau on the western flank of the Beshtaugorskoe field of uranium, during that drilling in apt-Albian deposits of the lower chalk was uncovered a low carbon dioxide thermal mineral water of hydro carbonate -sulfate sodium structure with a mineralization of 3.8 g/dm3. The well flow rate was more than 5 l/sec.

In 1972, because of deficiency of mineral water for bathing treatment in Eessentuky resort, on the basis of discovery experience of Middle – Essentuksky (1-CMW-bis) sector of the Eessentuky field, here was drilled a 1850 m deep test well 66 on the titonsko-valanzhinsky water- flow horizon. Flow rate of this well was over 3 l/sec. of low carbon dioxide thermal siliceous mineral water having chloride – hydrocarbonate -sulfate calcium-sodium structure and mineralization of 6.2 g/dm3.

In 1976-1977 on the wells 2-B and 66 of Central Beshtaugorsky sector were made hydrogeological test works to evaluate reserves of mineral water. They consisted of combined and single test releases of mineral water out of wells 2-B and 66. According the results of these works the State Commission of Reserves of Minerals estimated and approved a mineral water volume 600 m3/d, including 350 m3/d (category B) on the aptsko-nizhnealbsky water horizon and 250 m3/d (category A) on the titonsko-valanzhinsky.

Since 1979 this site was put into operation and by analogy with “Central – Essentuksky”, “Middle- Essentuksky” and “Novoblagodarnensky” sectors of the Eessentuky field it can be considered as “Old”.

In 1993, after State Commission of Reserves reviewed revaluation materials of operational reserves of curative mineral water developed by the Eessentuky resort, reserves of mineral water of the Central Beshtaugorsky sector were reduced from 600 to 490 m3/d. That means those were approved in volume that equals the average annual values of output, essentially observed in the conditions of stable hydrodynamic, hydrochemical, gas and temperature rates of using of the period 1987–1989. Along with that from 350 to 240 m3/d were reduced only operational reserves of mineral water of the aptsko-nizhnealbsky water-bearing horizon, and approved earlier volume of reserves of the titonsko-valanzhinsky water-bearing horizon– 250 m3/d was not changed, these reserves were only transferred from category A to category B.

For the same reasons, as on the Eessentuky field, in the late nineties of the last century on the Beshtaugorsky field emerged new West Beshtaugorsky and Southern Beshtaugorsky sectors located on the basis of wells 79 and 80, drilled by the North Caucasian Hydrogeological Expedition in 1988-1991. By well 79 in depth 1982 m in the titonsko-valanzhinsky water-bearing horizon were discovered low carbon dioxide thermal siliceous mineral waters having chloride – hydrocarbonate -sulfate calcium-sodium structure with a mineralization about 6 g/dm3 and an output about 2 l/sec.

Hydrogeological conditions of Beshtaugorsky field

Beshtaugorsky field of mineral water with all its three operational sites: Central Beshtaugorsky, West Beshtaugorsky and Southern Beshtaugorsky – is located in southwest part of the Mineralnye Vody intrusive area. However, unlike the Eessentuky field, the Beshtaugorsky field is not in Kislovodsko-Kumagorskoaya zone, i.e. not in merged part of the Kavminvodsky anticline, but on the east wing what defined a deeper (to 2000 m) bedding of all divisions of its hydrogeological section. But the most important is that the Beshtaugorsky field is located on the area of the Mineralnye Vody intrusive area, in that part of it where there was a penetration of the intrusive massif of Mount Beshtau in sedimentary breeds, accompanied by numerous semi-ring radial tectonic violations.

The Beshtaugorsky field of mineral water is the complicate water-pressure system lying on the waterproof Proterozoic and Paleozoic base which total capacity almost reaches 2 km, and total area makes about 15 sq.km.

On the West Beshtaugorsky site the well 79 is in use, which exploits the titonsko-valanzhinsky water-bearing horizon.

In spontaneous gas lifted in well 79 on the West Beshtaugorsky site there is carbon dioxide (62-98%) methane, nitrogen and oxygen. The general gas content fluctuates in the range of 2.07-2.9.

Among biologically active components in standard concentration in considered water are found the dissolved carbonic acid (0.49-1.09 g/dm3), metasilicon acid (58-190 mg/dm3).

Temperature of water on well 79 s depends on water selection and varies in an interval 43-68°С what characterizes these waters like very hot (high-thermal).

The micro component structure on the studied tests corresponds to the standards of mineral water GOST 13273-88 and the Sanitary Standards and Rules 2.3.2.1078-01.

According to the balneal resolution, mineral water – high-thermal, low carbon dioxide, medium mineralized, chloride – hydrocarbonate -sulfate calcium-sodium, siliceous, on structure is close to the XXI group in accordance with GOST 13273-88.
